"Top Truck" Class Proposal

I have been toying with the idea of proposing an 8-car (or 16-car, if possible) "Top Truck" class season championship involving "trucks of any kind, any engine, any tyres, any suspension, any weight and any chassis", but run in a different format. In my proposal, trucks would qualify as fast as they can, then race on a staggered, handicapped index. By this I mean, a racer can run wide open with NOS and/or high boost during qualifying, but would "slow down" (turn off the NOS and turn down the boost if they choose) for actual elimination rounds which would be run at racer-determined 11.00, 10.00, or 9.00 second brackets, with handicapped starts. Scoring would be: #1 qualifier would receive 8 points (plus 1 bonus point for being fastest), #2 would get 7 points only, #3 would get 6 points only, and so on. Then, during eliminations, each round winner would get 20 points towards their championship total. As you can see, there is a premium for building a fast truck (extra qualifying points), but racers would not have to race round-after-round at 100% - which usually results in broken race cars (especially the turbocharged cars), and eventually fewer race cars at the race track (because of expense) -- an endemic problem at Thai drag strips. This system would encourage racers to build ever faster race trucks (just to make the field and to get the qualifying points toward the season points championship). People who want to build the "Fastest Truck in Thailand" would receive the qualifying bonus point plus a trophy and cash baht at each race for the "Fastest Top Truck" at that particular race - "bragging rights" and a reward for their truck-building and tuning efforts. Plus, the fastest trucks have an advantage in season-long points accumulation, as well as on the track -- the chasing truck always has the advantage at the finish line in "index" racing. But, all the racers would not have to run "on the edge" run-after-run, risking continual breakage, during eliminations. This style of racing is very popular in The States now (Top Sportsman for "door cars" and Top Dragster, run the way I have outlined above) for the reasons I have given: you have to have a fast car "to play", but you do not have to run it on "kill" to be competitive - saving money and allowing more racers to run more often -- good for drag strips and race fans (who get to see really fast drag trucks, plus actual races where the winner is not determined in advance). In this system EVERY RACER IS ACTUALLY RACING EVERY ROUND with a chance of wining (based more on their tuning ability, not entirely on their financing ability). This is good for the long term health of Thai drag racing, rather than the short term glory of a few who would discourage racer participation and the growth of the sport of drag racing. Maybe in the future, if this "Top Truck" format becomes popular and successful, there will be enough competitive fast trucks to fill an 8-truck field in "Open Truck." In the meantime, the formation of a "Top Truck Association" would take the responsibility of managing the Top Truck portion of an event off the track owner/operators. The racers could "police themselves," as it were.

Those with deep pockets are free to go as fast as they like, I admire it, but to say they are "racing" is a misnomer. I would appreciate any RC Members who would translate this proposal into Thai. Thank You. Dr. Jeff Harper Racing Thailand
